In this session Helen will show the merits of using meaningful and authentic tasks by exploring a handful of her favourites from a collection of recommended sources. Helen will demonstrate the importance of building connections between mathematical ideas whilst enhancing student mathematical thinking and engagement. Bring your mathematician thinking caps and expect to be challenged!

Presenter: Helen Haralambous

Helen is a secondary Mathematics Education consultant for the Mathematical Association of Victoria.  She has been involved in education for over 30 years; this includes teaching secondary school mathematics in four different schools and holding numerous leadership positions in Mathematics, numeracy, curriculum, professional development and student wellbeing & management.  Helen also spent 12 months working as an education consultant at the Australian Bureau of Statistics and has co-authored a series of Year 7 – 10 mathematics textbooks.  Her passion is in making mathematics more engaging & enjoyable through incorporating hands-on mathematical tasks, real life application activities, and games into the maths classroom.

Event Booking and Cancellation Policy

Participants who cancel their booking on or prior to the advertised closing date will receive a full refund less the cancellation fee of $35. All cancellations must be in writing and include any documentation already sent out.

NO REFUNDS are available after the advertised closing date as costs will have been incurred and catering booked.

If events are free there is no cancellation fee.
