You’re on a mission to teach maths better and reach more students. Join MAV and Pam Harris for small steps that shift the focus from memorising and mimicking to reasoning and mathematising. And get big results. Walk away with the best strategies, models, and tasks to make it happen. Maths is Figure-out-able!
Be prepared to be engaged in:
• Discussions around developing mathematical reasoning and avoiding algorithmic traps.
• Focus on additive, multiplicative, proportional, and functional reasoning.
• Experience purposefully selected problem strings.
• Easy-to-implement actions for immediate impact in your classroom and school.

Pam Harris is a mum, a former high school maths teacher, a university lecturer, an author, and she wants to change the way we view and teach mathematics. While Pam was teaching high school maths, her four children grew and mathematised their world in a way she had never imagined. “I had always bought into the myth that maths is a disconnected set of facts to memorise, with rules and procedures to mimic. I now call that fake maths.” Pam’s own kids, research, and experiences teaching real maths have shown her what it means to mathematise and to support learners in their own journeys.
Real maths is thinking mathematically, not just mimicking what a teacher does on the board. You can shift your brain from using rote memory to mathematising. Pam helps teachers make this shift for themselves, and helps teachers teach in a way that supports students to learn real maths.
