2022 Victorian Coding Challenge

It’s time to report on the Victorian Coding Challenge for 2022 and announce the winners of Stage 2 - The competition! We were impressed with this year’s level of engagement and participation in the Victorian Coding Challenge. We have had over 2500 students from government schools across Year 5-10 take part! The feedback is consistently fantastic with many teachers and students making the VCC a part of their regular curriculum.

Vale Derek Hurrell

The Mathematics Education community will be saddened by the sudden loss of Derek Hurrell who passed away at home on Friday 4 November. Derek was a wonderful educator who has left his imprint on thousands of teachers who have passed through his classes at the University of Notre Dame Australia. Derek was an exceptional teacher and he loved teaching.

MAV Board sets strategy for an online educator community

The MAV Board recently approved the establishment of an online mathematics community. The community will be live by the end of 2022 to provide better support for educators across Victoria. Educators will be able to connect, share, and access advice and expertise in one easy-to-use collaborative environment.

New Careers in STEM activities for schools!

The Mathematics in Careers investigations are designed to help students experience what careers in leading STEM industries can look like, through collaborative projects that solve real word problems, using real data and tools. The investigations were created by MAV Education Consultants, Helen Haralambous and Jess Mount as part of the Connecting Learning with Work Project.
