Following the AGM Dr Norm Do of Monash University will engage us with an interesting and fun mathematical presentation. This will be followed by drinks, nibbles and conversation with special guests of Monash University.

Norman Do

Maths Outside the Box

What is maths and what does it mean to you? I believe that it's important for all of us involved at any level of maths education to keep asking ourselves this question. In this short talk, we'll consider some fun problems that may help to expand and diversify your perspectives on math.

Dr Norman Do

Norm is, first and foremost, a self-confessed maths geek! He is currently a Senior Lecturer in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Monash University. He spends his time there playing with strange shapes, counting interesting objects, and wondering what might be true (his four-year-old son probably does very much the same thing at kindergarten).

Norm is heavily involved in mathematics enrichment for school students, chairing the Australian Mathematical Olympiad Problems Committee and lecturing at the National Mathematics Summer School. His contributions in education have been recognised by a B. H. Neumann Award for “significant contribution to the enrichment of mathematics learning in Australia” and an Australian Awards for University Teaching Citation for “outstanding contributions to student learning

All MAV members and other interested guest are welcome to attend.
