Victorian Maths Camps

About the Maths Camps
The Victorian Maths Camps are a new initiative funded by the Department of Education under the Victorian Government's Excellence in Every Classroom scheme. The camps will be delivered by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) in partnership with the Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) and the Y Victoria.
Across the next 2.5 years, the program will provide 960 fully funded places for Year 9 and 10 students in government schools, giving them the opportunity to participate in immersive, five-day residential camps at Y Discovery locations across Victoria.
Designed for high-ability students with a passion for mathematics, the camps combine collaborative problem-solving with hands-on, real-world applications in a supportive and engaging environment. Alongside expert-led workshops, students will build connections with like-minded peers while enjoying a range of outdoor and adventure activities.
By making mathematics more tangible, relevant and accessible, the Victorian Maths Camps aim to broaden participation—particularly among underrepresented groups—and support more students to pursue mathematics in their future studies.
Applications
Applications for the first Maths Camp are now closed, but expressions of interest for subsequent camps will be opening soon.

The National Mathematics Summer School
About the Summer School
The National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS) is a two-week residential mathematics school that takes place every year in January at the Australian National University. It has been enriching and broadening the mathematical minds of young Australians since 1969. It is the oldest and most prestigious summer school in Australia.
The NMSS is a great place for students who are going into Year 12 and who have a passion for mathematics. They will interact with leading mathematicians, studying topics ranging from number theory to chaos theory and topology. The emphasis is on solving problems and developing the skills of a mathematician, rather than performing calculations quickly or competitively.
There is also a strong emphasis on recreation and social connections. During afternoons and on the weekend, students are given free time to explore Canberra. In the evenings, you will find staff and students alike playing board games and card games. The school concludes with a formal dinner and a student concert with items ranging from instrumental pieces to group sing-alongs, magic tricks and comedy acts.
More information about the National Mathematics Summer School is available at www.nmss.edu.au.
2027 Camp Dates: 10 - 23 January 2027.
Location: Australian National University, Canberra.

Applications
This is a selective camp that caters for highly capable mathematics students from all over Australia. Applicants for the 2027 NMSS should be in Year 11 in 2026.
In the application form, students are required to enter the email address of a teacher who can support their application. Submission of the application form will trigger an email request for the teacher to complete there online nomination form.
Selection is based on both the strength of a student's written application and their teacher's nomination.
Applications for NMSS close Friday August 28th, 2026.
Financial Assistance
Participants make a financial contribution that covers less than the operating costs for the school, which is possible due to various benefactors and sponsors. We hope that the cost is not prohibitively expensive, but if it is, we encourage students to seek financial support from their school or other organisations. The Leon Poladian Scholarships are available to students who are highly meritorious but unable to attend the NMSS without further assistance. To apply for such a scholarship, please email the NMSS Director at director@nmss.edu.au.
