Maths Active Teacher

MAV Maths Active Teacher

Be one of the first Maths Active Teacher's in Victoria!

MAV's brand new Maths Active Teacher initiative is a way to recognise and support individuals who demonstrate effective learning and teaching practices in mathematics.

Who can apply?

Any Victorian registered teacher (Early childhood- Year 12). To apply, you will need to be an individual MAV member.

When can I apply?

You can apply to be a Maths Active School at any time.

How do I apply?

  1. Download and respond to the Maths Active Teacher application form
  2. Review your application to ensure you have the assessment rubric
  3. Submit application to rladner@mav.vic.edu.au

What are the criteria for a Maths Active Teacher?

See the rubric above.

MAV does not expect a Maths Active Teacher to be achieving "highly evident" in all domains. We like to think of it as an audit of your own current practices with a plan in mind to continue developing your skills over the years, and at MAV, we are here to help you with that.

Before you apply, you will need:

  • the support of your principal or principal class leader
  • to provide short statements of evidence against each of the several criteria
  • to be a MAV individual member

What happens after the application is submitted?

A team of education consultants at the MAV review all applications, make suggestions as needed, then make a recommendation to the MAV’s Council to accept or decline a teacher's application.

Once a teacher has been granted the Maths Active Teacher accreditation by the MAV Board they will be notified and where possible a member of our MAV team will come and present your accreditation.

What's in it for you?

You will receive:

  • a Maths Active Teacher certificate to add to your education portfolio
  • a digital email banner stating the year you are a Maths Active Teacher (for each year your membership is renewed you will receive up to date assets)
  • special invitations to attend events, professional development or trial programs
  • increased support and awareness of mathematical professional development, activities and resources.

You can:

  • add your Maths Active Teacher accreditation to your CV
  • demonstrate to students, parents and your school community that mathematics is enjoyable and highly valued
  • receive priority for pilot programs and initiatives that the MAV undertakes
