It’s time to report on the Victorian Coding Challenge for 2022 and announce the winners of Stage 2 - The competition!
We were impressed with this year’s level of engagement and participation in the Victorian Coding Challenge. We have had over 2500 students from government schools across Year 5-10 take part! The feedback is consistently fantastic with many teachers and students making the VCC a part of their regular curriculum.
This year, we were finally able to have a face-to-face event to conclude the challenge, which meant we had to pivot away from an online project-based competition to a competitive, fast paced and fun full day event. Schools registered their most keen coders to come to the Docklands to compete in teams with other schools with a variety of different activities on the 10th (Primary) and 17th (Secondary) of November. The theme of the event was Hacking & Cryptography and from the moment those keen coders entered the venue until 3pm when they left, the energy levels were off the charts!
We would like to thank the schools who took their students through to the second stage of the VCC, we believe this was an invaluable day for them and something they’ll remember for a long time.
Students participated in unplugged relays, coding challenges on both Scratch (Primary) and Python (Secondary). Primary school students experienced using micro:bits to crack codes and the secondary school students had a “capture the flag” style competition where they had to crack several different cyphers and puzzles in order to capture as many flags as possible.
