Job Description
The VCE Offshore program works with schools overseas who deliver the VCE through local schools to local students. As part of the program, experienced working teachers in Victoria mentor the international teachers who are part of the VCE Offshore program. Thomas Carr College is current looking for a Specialist Mathematics Mentor to work with teachers in China.
Mentors are expected to assist the international teachers with planning and assessing all coursework, helping with the writing of SACs, cross marking SAC tasks, providing guidance during subject audits and sharing their experience and expertise. Mentors hold fortnightly online meetings with the international teachers they mentor to provide timely and personal PD and general support. There are also opportunities for international travel, in particular the opportunity to attend the annual 'VCE in China' conference to run sessions for international mathematics teachers in conjunction with other mentors from Victoria.
Job Requirement
- experience teaching Specialist Mathematics
- at least 2 years of experience writing or assessing Specialist Mathematics examinations
- an openness to other educational systems and approaches and a willingness to work through the challenges presented by cultural differences and language barriers
- prior experience with EAL students and the educational system in China would be an advantage but not essential
- availability to travel to the 'VCE in China' conference in the second week of the July school holidays
