The ACU Master of Teaching (Early Years) has been designed to contribute to the education profession by preparing graduates to be accomplished and articulate advocates for the rights and responsibilities of all children within their professional, community, outreach, and research contexts. Master of Teaching (Primary) - 2-year approved course for primary teaching in Victoria

The Master of Teaching (Primary) is for graduates who want to become primary school teachers and have an appropriate undergraduate degree.

It’s a pre-service teacher education program that applies advanced knowledge and research findings to the problems, issues and challenges facing education professionals.

Graduates will be eligible for employment in Catholic and other faith-based schools, and government and non-government schools. 

This Masters degree prepares primary school teachers who are reflective, independent and flexible thinkers who can apply their skills to improve curriculum offerings and advance their community’s education.

It gives students valuable professional experience through a range of school- and community-based placements during the course.

 

Graduate Certificate in Education6 months full-time

The Graduate Certificate in Education is for qualified teachers, leaders, youth ministers, chaplains and family/parish educators who wish to pursue advanced academic and professional study in a specialised area that is relevant to their professional responsibilities and concerns. It will not lead to a teaching qualification.

The course can be undertaken as a stand-alone certificate or as part of a specialisation within the Master of Education. A Graduate Certificate in Education comprises 40 credit points towards the Master of Education.

This advanced teaching course will encourage you to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of recent research and/or professional developments related to the program of study.

Graduate Certificate in Higher Education – years part-time. Maximum duration: 4 years part-time

The Graduate Certificate in Higher Education supports the acquisition and development of knowledge, intellectual and practical skills needed to undertake academic teaching responsibilities in a scholarly way. The course comprises four units of study. These focus on theories, principles and concepts related to learning and teaching in higher education; curriculum and assessment design, and evaluation of higher education programs; development of knowledge and skill in Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL); and, development of capability in the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT).

Graduates will develop their knowledge, intellectual and practical skills in ways that are informed by, and benefit from, the university's graduate attributes and the University's mission.

Master of Teaching (Secondary) - 2-year approved course for secondary teaching in Victoria

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is for graduates who want to become secondary school teachers and have an appropriate undergraduate degree. Graduates will be eligible for employment in Catholic and other faith-based schools, independent and government high schools and other secondary schools.

Depending on your undergraduate degree, this Master’s degree will prepare you to teach specialist areas including:

  • visual arts, music and/or drama
  • English
  • mathematics
  • commerce and business
  • studies of society and the environment
  • languages other than English
  • personal development, health and physical education
  • information and communication technology
  • liberal arts and sciences
  • religious education

It enables students to adopt a research-based approach to reflective practice. They’ll be able to consider the implications and applications of this approach to their own professional development and its contribution to their students’ learning and wellbeing.

The course provides valuable professional experience through a variety of school and community-based placements during the course.

Students who undertake the Master of Teaching (Secondary) may also concurrently complete the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education to gain accreditation to teach religious education in Catholic schools.

The second year of the Master of Teaching (Secondary)(Professional Practice) will be undertaken through partnership between ACU and secondary schools. Participants will undertake a paid 0.8 teaching load in a secondary school and complete a project focusing on teaching as evidence-based practice (0.2 load).

Each participant in the program will work with a dedicated teacher mentor and university teaching scholar to develop capabilities in three key areas:

  • aligning curriculum, teaching and assessment
  • explicitly connecting national priorities of literacy and numeracy with discipline studies
  • collecting, interpreting and using assessment evidence and school data to improve learning outcomes and for educational accountability

Entry conditions apply. Subject also to school/employer authority offer of employment at 0.8 load.

DEAKIN UNIVERSITY

Master of Applied Learning and Teaching  - 2-year approved course for secondary teaching. These courses can be done on campus or off campus

The Master of Applied Learning and Teaching qualifies students to work in secondary schools and other youth settings such as VCAL, Vocational Education & Training System (TAFE).

The course will personalise participants’ learning experiences by adopting a problem-based approach that is closely aligned with authentic school improvement initiatives, and linking theory and practice through strong work-integrated learning partnerships with Primary and Secondary schools across Melbourne, Geelong and Warrnambool forming what is called the Deakin Academies. Participants will be asked to engage critically with their developing expertise in teaching practice and be open to contemporary ideas and research challenging traditional transmissive approaches to teaching and responding to a need for greater cultural diversity and inclusivity in patterns of Australian educational participation.

Master of teaching (Early Childhood) – 2-year course or part time equivalent

Early Childhood Education focuses on birth to 5 years. As Australia is during significant growth in the early childhood education sector, Master of Teaching (Early Childhood) has been developed to address the potential shortage of trained early childhood teachers.

Master of Teaching (Primary) – 2-years full-time or part-time equivalent

The Master of Teaching (Primary) course is fully accredited by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) and prepares graduates for employment as a primary teacher in Australia and overseas. The course includes core subjects of the primary curriculum: English, mathematics, science, humanities and social sciences, the arts, technology, health and physical education, and opportunities to develop breadth of knowledge in areas of interest.

Master of Teaching (Primary and Secondary) – 2-year course or part-time equivalent

The Master of Teaching (Primary and Secondary) prepares you to work as a teacher across all primary and secondary levels including VCE.

Selecting this course offers you more flexibility in levels you can teach when you graduate. Study core units to enhance your teaching skills and decide on which student level you’d like to teach later.

Alongside core studies in education, you will complete two secondary curriculum studies from English, TESOL, Languages other than English, Drama, Dance, Media, Visual Arts, Music, Humanities, Commerce and Business, Geography, History, Mathematics, Health, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Science and Environmental Science.

Alongside core studies, you will complete two secondary curriculum studies from English, TESOL, Languages other than English, Drama, Dance, Media, Visual Arts, Music, Humanities, Commerce and Business, Geography, History, Mathematics, Health, Physics, Biology, Psychology, Chemistry, Science and Environmental Science. 

In addition to your curriculum studies, the final stage of the Masters of Teaching (Secondary) course offers you the opportunity to choose one of the following specialisation pathways: Internship, Leadership, Inclusive Education, Languages Teaching, Teaching English to Speakers of other Languages, Internationalisation, or Research.

Master of Teaching (Primary)- 2 - year approved course for primary teaching in Victoria.  

This postgraduate course will help you take your skills from your undergraduate degree to become a teacher. You may be looking to change your career or you've decided after finishing your undergraduate degree, that teaching is what you really want to do. You'll graduate from this degree with the confidence and skills to teach in primary school across Australia and overseas.

It's a hands-on course that gets you out into the classroom for a minimum of 60 days, where you can put what you've learnt into practice.

You'll discover how children learn and how you can help to develop and support their learning. You'll look at examples from around the world, and learn how to best work with children from diverse backgrounds.

We'll help you top up your skills in English, math, numeracy and more, so that when you start work as a teacher, you're as comfortable and qualified as can be.

Choose from one and a half year’s full time on-campus, or three years part time online study.

This program is open to all graduates who wish to teach in primary schools. The program is informed by world-class research-based teaching that links theory and practice. It enables candidates with at least a three-year undergraduate degree to complete the program. Students will spend time teaching in diverse educational contexts during the duration of their enrolment and will develop extensive knowledge of how primary aged children learn and how best to provide opportunities to develop and support such learning. The program presents opportunities for students to engage in ideas and theoretical frames within education, to connect these with practice and reflect on the implications of such connections.

      

LA TROBE UNIVERSITY

Master of Teaching (Primary) - 2-year full time equivalent approved course for primary teaching and studied over 1.5 calendar years. #

Enhance your undergraduate degree with this two-year teaching qualification and graduate with the skills you need to work as a primary school teacher across Australia.

You'll gain teaching skills across physical education, technology, science, humanities, literacy and numeracy. Your subjects will also cover contemporary teaching methods, curriculum theory, lesson planning and classroom management, all of which will influence your thinking when you start working in the classroom.

Your subjects will be taught through a blend of online distance learning and 15 days of face-to-face classes, delivered in three five-day blocks at our Melbourne (Bundoora) Campus. To build practical teaching experience, you'll undertake 60 days of supervised teaching practice and complete a practitioner research project.

You have the option to complete this degree through an accelerated 18-month path, or extended over 30 months. As well as a teaching career, this degree also opens the option to go on to further research in education.

This course is accredited against national standards by the Victorian Institute of Teaching

Upon course completion, each student's academic record is released to VIT for teacher registration purposes. Students who do not want their academic record released to VIT must notify their course administrator in writing or email before the end of teaching in their last subject.

 

Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies- 1-year approved for primary and secondary teaching in Victoria

If you are a teacher with three years' training or if education relates to your field of work, this course provides you with an opportunity to further your professional development in general educational studies. It provides a fourth-year qualification for teachers with three years' training or a qualification in education for nurses or other professionals who wish to pursue studies in professional education related to their own environment. It is also a pathway to Master’s-level study (satisfying requirements for the first year).

This course is not a professional entry course, it is a teacher development course for people involved in teaching at any level. It may either add a specialist qualification for teachers who are already registered or lead to further study opportunities in the broad field of education.
