Well, the weather seems to be on the improve and daylight saving is finally here. Yup, it really is term four 2014! How time flies. I have to say that the MAVShop has some great new titles and resources selected by our Mathematics Education Consultants. As a quick tip, I reckon quite a few presents for loved ones can be found there. Anyways, this MAVlist edition is all about the MAV's 2014 public lectures series and some Conference news:
2. MAV Annual Conference - 4 & 5 December 2014 - places filling fast!
Getting parents to participate in their child’s learning can be challenging, especially when many parents don’t feel confident about their capacity to help their children. The Ardoch Count 4 Kids Challenge encourages participants to work with their parents or friends to complete five to ten minutes of mental maths activities a day for the month of November and along the way help raise funds for the Ardoch Youth Foundation.
The Ardoch Count 4 Kids Challenge is a fantastic way to increase parent participation in their child’s learning. It offers a great opportunity to organise parent helper programs in the classroom utilising parents in a meaningful way to create discussions about math in everyday life, whilst increasing both students and parents confidence in their mathematical abilities.
I do hope you manage to get into all of the sessions you want at the MAV Annual Conference and look forward to meeting with MAV members at the first 2014 MAV Public Lecture at the Library at the Docks on Sunday, 26 October. Between now and then, please pass on any mathematics education news you feel I ought share in future editions of MAVlist.
