Mathematics Teachers day!

For primary teachers, regardless of experience. Sessions build confidence and develop professional ability as a mathematics educator in a supportive, hands-on environment.

The Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) in collaboration with the Melbourne Graduate School of Education’s Mathematics, Science and Technology Education Group (MSTEG) present a conference focusing on primary school mathematics education.


Theme: QUALITY TEACHING 

Evidence shows that quality teaching including teacher capability and confidence are key to student learning success. Quality teaching requires many things for educators to be at their best. These include developing personal attributes such as resilience, self-efficacy, and a willingness to learn. Leading educators also require strong content knowledge, and a deep understanding of pedagogy relevant to student cohorts at various levels from lower to upper primary.

Further, excellence in teaching and learning also requires educators to build practice excellence using evidence to measure effectiveness and impact.

Join us to develop your own capability and confidence as a mathematics educator and leader, exploring evidence for quality teaching, as we arm you with the tools and knowledge to provide the best student learning experience and outcomes.

Themes for the teachers day include:

  • understanding the attributes of quality teaching and resources
  • using high impact teaching strategies to maximise student outcomes
  • developing content and pedagogical content knowledge
  • creating a quality student learning environment including engagement, high expectations and student self-regulation
  • using assessment to understand learning progression
  • developing quality teaching through professional learning teams
  • understanding my personal attributes and developing myself as a professional educator.

 A COVID safe venue:

  • It is a requirement for anyone attending University of Melbourne campuses to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (or have a valid medical exemption).

  • While face masks are not currently required (except for household contacts / close contacts, who must wear one on campus), you are welcome to wear one if you want to. You should also respect other people’s decisions to wear a mask in settings where it is not mandatory.
  • Physically distance from others where possible
  • Let the organiser know immediately if you become unwell during the event/meeting
  • If you test positive to COVID-19 in the 48 hours following this event, please notify the University’s Public Health Network and the event organiser as soon as possible
  • If someone who attends the event subsequently tests positive, it will be listed on the COVID-19 cases on campus webpage. Attendees are encouraged to monitor this site following the event for information related to any potential exposures to COVID-19 at this event.

Event Booking and Cancellation Policy

Participants who cancel their booking on or prior to the advertised closing date will receive a full refund less the cancellation fee of $35. All cancellations must be in writing and include any documentation already sent out.

NO REFUNDS are available after the advertised closing date as costs will have been incurred and catering booked.

If events are free there is no cancellation fee.
