Description:
Early Childhood Webinar Series
We’re excited to announce that the Early Childhood Webinar Series will continue in 2026. With a focus on mathematics in early childhood education, these sessions are designed to support your professional learning and explore how maths can be thoughtfully embedded in play-based and emergent curricula. Bringing together current research and practitioner expertise, each webinar will spotlight a key aspect of early childhood mathematics, offering practical strategies, fresh insights, and inspiring examples to help you notice, nurture, and extend mathematical thinking through everyday play.
Webinar Five: Intentional Picture Book Use to Boost Children’s Maths, Vocabulary, and Play
This practical workshop explores how picture books can be used intentionally to build children’s mathematical thinking, strengthen vocabulary, and support rich, play-based learning experiences.
During the session, participants will:
- Deepen their understanding of how narrative and illustration can make mathematical concepts meaningful for young learners
- Explore a range of mathematically rich picture books that support number, pattern, measurement, spatial reasoning and data concepts
- Engage in hands-on planning activities to design book-based mathematical provocations
- Strengthen their capacity to recognise and document mathematical thinking within everyday practice
- Consider how to extend maths experiences through environments, family partnerships, and curriculum alignment
