MAV Podcasts
Subscribe to the MAV occasional podcast series to hear, and occasionally see, highlights from MAV events.
The most recent addition to our podcast is a very special video presentation of The Mathematics of Poo. This talk was given by Dr. David Shallcross, Associate Dean (Teaching), School of Engineering at the University of Melbourne, at the 2008 MAV Annual General Meeting. For visitors to the MAV website who don't have access to an RSS reader, the video is also available here. Please note that this is a 40MB video, suitable for broadband connections only.
Previous podcasts include "Maths vs GOD", Marty Ross' presentation from the 2006 MAV Public Lecture series, and speeches from the MAV centennial dinner address, by Colleen Vale, Elizabeth Burns (reading a letter from Thelma Perso, AAMT President) and Dr Max Stephens.
A podcast is a collection of audio or video content that's powered by subscription software called RSS. Just like a magazine automatically gets delivered to your home when you subscribe, a podcast delivers new content directly to you, without you having to check on the Web site for updates.
You will need software to play our podcasts, such as iTunes and iPodder, and a web browser that understands what to do with an RSS feed. Most browsers for Apple computers can do this. On PCs, browsers such as Opera, Firefox, and Internet Explorer version 7 support RSS.
Once you have subscribed, you can go directly into your podcast software and have it search for new content. All the latest featured audio or video content from the MAV site will automatically get downloaded for you. You can then choose to listen or view the content right then, or download it to a portable listening device for later viewing or listening.
